Questions families
always ask.
This guide is for families and guardians considering our 24-Hour Residential Program for a child. Here are honest answers — and how to take the next step. If you’re exploring services for an adult, see Supported Living or Community Living Supports.
Your child will be safe, seen, and genuinely cared for.
We know this decision doesn’t come easy. At Vitalia, we treat every child as if they were our own — with consistency, warmth, and deep respect for who they are.
Languages we speak
For families from East African or Latin American communities, language access isn’t a courtesy — it’s fundamental to quality care.

Yes. Our home has 24-hour awake staffing as required by Oregon law for children’s programs. Every staff member is trained to your child’s specific needs, medical requirements, and behavioral support plan before they begin. We conduct quarterly safety reviews, individualized fire evacuation plans, and maintain all emergency protocols required by Oregon law.
Absolutely. Our staff speak English, Spanish, Amharic, and Swahili fluently. For families from East African and Spanish-speaking communities, communicating naturally — not through a translation service — makes an enormous difference in trust and comfort. This is central to who we are.
Family connection is protected under Oregon’s HCBS rules and actively encouraged at Vitalia. Your child’s visits, calls, and family relationships are treated as essential to their wellbeing — never as a disruption to our program. We work with families as partners, not visitors.
Every day is structured around each child’s Individual Support Plan, which your family helps shape. Typically this includes school attendance, three nutritious meals and two snacks, therapeutic activities, recreational time, and community participation. Routines are individualized, not institutional.
Placement is accessed through your child’s assigned case manager at the Washington County CDDP. If your child has an ODDS eligibility determination and an active Medicaid benefit, their case manager can explore a placement at Vitalia. Families who want to learn more before that process can call us directly at (971) 284-6950.
Yes. We specifically serve children with co-occurring behavioral, medical, and developmental challenges. Our Direct Support Professionals are trained to each child’s individual ISP and behavioral support plan before their first shift. We do not take shortcuts with this.
How placement works.
Call or email us. We confirm current availability and discuss whether the child’s needs are a fit. We respond the same business day.
We gather and review all documentation required by Oregon law — eligibility, ISP, behavioral history, medical records, and support plans.
We participate in a meeting with the child, case manager, and family to confirm fit and plan the transition collaboratively.
Following written prior authorization from ODDS, we prepare the home and complete all entry-day assessments including fire evacuation.
